ART EXHIBITION; NORTH SUMMER HEAT AND LONGING by HANS-ERIK KARLSSON
In NORTH - summer heat and longing, a boyhood dream come true. A fantasy combining the broad horizons with the urban landscape. In his younger years, the Swedish artist Hans-Erik Karlsson was reading about Gösta Adrian Nilsson, GAN, and his first meeting with Berlin in the 1920s. It was the frivolous atmosphere in the european metropole and the colourful expressionist art that met GAN in his work with the Walden couple and Der Sturm, that come to inspire Hans-Erik in his own painting.
Raised at a farm in the southwestern part of Sweden, even Hans-Erik himself pictured his future dairying cows and breeding horses. In his younger years painting was not an option, predestinated as he was to become a farmer as generations before him. As a former gardener, using the colours of nature in different plantings, he could combine his upbringing with his dream to paint.
In 2003 Hans-Erik finally made his finals at the Art school of Falkenberg, then starting his studio at the farm of the family. A studio that have become a melting pot for colourful experiences and creative meetings in art.
Either its the urban heat, the city collage or the broad and mysterious landscapes, his signature is the colours. That sensual warmth is not only highly appreciated among his audience; it also defines the art of Hans-Erik Karlsson. That´s what makes NORTH - summer heat and longing, something for everyone to experience.
Now presenting his works for the german audience, Hans-Erik combines the colourful varied crops and dramatically dark forests of Halland with steamy farmer boys. Known for using the clean and bright scale of colour, he makes you feel the power of the warm soil, the bright sometimes thunderous sky and the mysterious deep green. The latter a place for fairytale creatures to dwell behind the stem of trees. Tempting and equally loaded as the cities shaded meetings among men…
